At Acufast, sustainability has always been central to how we design, manufacture, and deliver our acupuncture needles. From the beginning, our “one tree planted for every two boxes sold” initiative was one way we brought that commitment to life.
Thanks to the support of our practitioner community, this program has had meaningful global impact. Together, we’ve planted over 30,500 trees across projects in Canada, California, Australia, Brazil, and Romania. We’ve also contributed to rehabilitation efforts supporting monarch butterfly migration corridors in Mexico. These initiatives represent a collective step toward healthier ecosystems, and we’re incredibly proud of what has been accomplished.
Due to rising global costs across materials, manufacturing, and logistics, we’ve had to make the difficult decision to discontinue this specific program. Like many of you, we are navigating increased costs—and we believe it’s essential to keep our needles competitively priced and accessible for practitioners who are also feeling the pressure of running a business in today’s environment.
While this change is disappointing, it does not alter our core mission: to provide the most environmentally responsible acupuncture needles on the market.
Our Commitment to Sustainability Continues
Acufast remains deeply committed to reducing environmental impact across every aspect of our product design:
Smarter, fully recyclable packaging
- Needle pouches are made from PET1 plastic and are recyclable with other soft plastics
- Outer boxes are made from bagasse (sugarcane fibre), making them both recyclable and compostable—without cutting down trees
Less material, less waste
- Our packaging is the most compact available for 1,000 needles, reducing shipping volume and energy use
- Optional guide tubes mean only practitioners who need them receive them—minimizing unnecessary waste
- Our soft tubes use 60% less plastic than conventional alternatives
- No plastic retainer tabs are required, thanks to our needle and tube design
Cleaner sterilization, longer shelf life
- We use Gamma Ray sterilization instead of ethylene oxide, reducing environmental impact
- This method also extends sterile shelf life, helping prevent product waste
Thoughtful design that reduces loss
- Our unique accessories support efficient handling and help prevent accidental needle drops
Moving Forward
Sustainability isn’t defined by a single initiative—it’s the result of continuous, thoughtful decisions across the entire product lifecycle. While our tree-planting program is ending, our commitment to innovation, waste reduction, and environmentally responsible design remains stronger than ever.
We’re proud to continue offering what we believe are the most eco-conscious acupuncture needles available—without compromising on quality, performance, or affordability.
Thank you for continuing to be part of this journey with us.
